The drilling rig Ocean Patriot will be mobilised to the Taranaki basin for the Tui joint venture in about one month following completion of the Cutter-1 oil wildcat in the Canterbury basin.
The Tieke prospect should be drilled before the rig begins the four Tui development wells, said project partner New Zealand Oil & Gas (NZOG).
"Drilling Tieke first could impact favourably as the prospect shows potential to deliver up to a further 15 million barrels and such a discovery would significantly enhance the Tui project," said NZOG.
