Qatargas II, owned by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil, has ordered 14 ships with capacity ranging from 210,000 to 265,000 cubic metres from a group of Korean shipbuilders. Typical tankers now in use carry 138,000 cubic metres.

The new tankers, which will be delivered from early 2008 when the South Hook LNG terminal in Wales is due to start commercial operation, will be able to capture and liquefy the gas that is lost in transit.
