The company posted a loss of A$600.1 million (US$434.3 million) for the six months to 31 December, compared to a loss of A$79.1 million over the same period a year earlier.
Adding to the recent loss was A$656 million in “other expenses” which included a A$525 million impairment on the company's Cooper basin assets due to lower oil prices, as well as A$83 million for exploration interests including Nappamerri Trough natural gas and Tanzania due to limited work programmes.
