Angolan acreage awarded

Angola has awarded a swathe of onshore acreage in its Kwanza and Congo basins to local players, many barely known, underpinning its aim of establishing indigenous upstream capabilities beyond state-owned Sonangol, writes Iain Esau.

Subject to certain conditions, the operatorship of three Congo basin blocks was awarded to Somoil — already active off shore Angola — EC&MDS and Sunshine while five Kwanza basin blocks went to Sunshine, Grupo Simples Oil, Alfort Petroleum, AIS and Soconinfa.

Somoil secured the Con 1 block and will be partnered by Lulumbo, Enix, Isoil, ABC, Servicab, Prodoil – another player with local offshore exposure - Ambioil and Upite.
