Alberta’s New Democrat Party (NDP) government will honour nearly C$1.3 billion (US$1 billion) in carbon capture and storage funding for Canada’s two premier projects, despite a campaign pledge to scrap the programme.

Fears provincial funding would be pulled and redirected in favour of public transportation were allayed when the newly-elected NDP said it would support Shell Canada’s Quest CCS project and Enhance Energy’s Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL).
