Speaking this week in Moscow, Gazprom’s deputy executive chairman Vitaly Markelov said the company had to halt production at its Kirinskoye field on Sakhalin earlier this year “because of the lack of demand for gas”.
He said Gazprom expects to resume production at the field this winter as demand picks up for gas.
The Kirinskoye field is the first of the three deposits within the Kirinsky block that Gazprom anticipates will become the chief source of gas for the Primorye region in the far east of Russia.
