The explosion was caused by a gas leak in the pump house area of the FPSO. The confirmed dead include five Brazilian nationals and one Indian worker.
By the time Upstream went to press, vessel owner BW Offshore was still carrying out search and rescue operations to locate the three missing personnel, all of whom are Brazilians.
“Our hearts go out to the families of the men we have lost”, said BW’s chief executive Carl Arnet, adding that five injured workers are in hospital.
