Norwegian operator Statoil has made an oil and gas discovery on the Cape Vulture prospect in the Norwegian Sea.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) revealed Tuesday that Statoil’s 6608/10-17 S well in licence 128 had been drilled to a depth of 3248 metres and hit oil at two levels in the Lange formation.

The well hit a five-metre oil column in the primary exploration target with an overlying gas column of about 13 metres, of which three and 10 metres, respectively, were in sandstone with moderate to good reservoir properties.
