The South African mercenary was found guilty last week of leading a failed coup in March alongside four other South Africans, six Armenians and two Equatoguineans who also received heavy prison sentences.

Severo Moto, an exiled opposition leader based in Spain who denies involvement in the alleged coup, was tried in absentia and sentenced to 63 years in jail while his eight exiled "ministers" each got 52-years behind bars.
