The 170,000-cubic metre Independence FSRU is the second of the four vessels that Norway’s Hoegh LNG has ordered from Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The $330 million vessel has been leased to the project operator, Lithuania’s Klaipedos Nafta.

Klaipeda liquefied natural gas terminal is planned to have an initial annual throughput capacity of 3 billion cubic metres, fully meeting Lithuania’s gas demand.

Capacity may be boosted to 4 Bcm per year in the event that two neighbouring Baltic states, Latvia and Estonia, decide to import gas via Klaipeda.
