Indonesia’s Environment & Forestry Management Ministry has tasked national oil and gas Pertamina with taking responsibility for clean-up and restoration work following the recent oil spill in Balikpapan Bay, East Kalimantan.
Investigations continue into the spill and subsequent fire that claimed five lives, but it is widely believed it occurred after a Panama-flagged vessel dropped anchor in a prohibited area.
