Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, will head to Japan in the coming weeks in an attempt to repair bilateral relations after officials in Tokyo voiced concerns about Australia’s future as a reliable liquefied natural gas exporter.
Japanese government officials accused Australia of “betrayal” over recently implemented carbon emissions legislation that Japan claims could threaten its energy security.
