"India's biggest challenge is meeting the energy expectations of 1.26 billion people," Narendra Taneja,energy spokesman for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party said during a spirited ONS 2016 session on Wednesday.

"Indian people are now more connected,they know what's happening in New Delhi,New York,Oslo,around the world. Many of these people expect the best, however,you still have people in India today who travel for kilometres to charge a mobile phone," Taneja said.

"This is like an energy apartheid.
