The UK supermajor has, however, agreed to extend the contract term for another Seadrill unit, softening the blow for a rig owner that has had other recent cancellation notices.
The notice of termination filed to Seadrill concerns the West Sirius, which BP has on contract in the US Gulf of Mexico. Seadrill's latest fleet status report in February lists the rig as on charter to the supermajor from July 2014 to July 2019 at $535,000 a day.
