In June this year New Delhi objected a proposed auction round of offshore oil and gas blocks by Bangladesh, saying it encroached on India’s territory.

Previous talks on the disputed blocks took place in 1982. Dhaka has also objected in the past when India or its other maritime neighbour, Burma, has held rounds.

Bangladesh foreign adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury told the Daily Star newspaper the talks were taking place after a long hiatus and that both the governments were committed to sorting out the territorial dispute.

A
