The Texas-based company told state regulators that around 255 barrels of water leaked from a tank at a Denbury-operated well site in Billings County on Friday.
As of Monday, around 220 barrels of the water had been recovered. No impacts to surface water have been reported, according to the North Dakota Department of Health.
State officials are investigating the leak.
Produced water spills are an increasingly common occurrence in North Dakota, which lies over the prolific Bakken shale.
