The US could lose 700,000 barrels of oil per day from tight plays in 2017, compared to 2015 levels, according to the report. However, the decrease is expected to be cushioned by greater efficiencies and cost reductions.
"The use of more efficient hydraulic fracturing techniques and the application of multiwell-pad drilling, as well as changes in well completion designs, will allow producers to recover greater volumes from a single well," according to the EIA.
