Fairmount said it was told by Ensco that unless the Fjord could arrive off West Africa by 31 August, it would have to seek other transport to move the rig.
Fairmount said in a statement it would not be able to make the deadline as the Fjord was still undergoing conversion from a semi-submersible barge to a self-propelled vessel.
The Ensco 100 was scheduled to complete drilling off Nigeria on 7 August, according to details on Ensco's website.
