The group began scaling London's Shard building in the early hours of Thursday morning, Greenpeace confirmed on its UK Twitter page.
Police were called to the scene just after 04:00 local as the six women had already started their ascent of the 72-storey building, having accessed from the roof of adjoining London Bridge rail station.
Greenpeace said in a statement that it chose the Shard because it was modelled on a piece of ice and was situated in between Shell’s three main bases in London.
