The well was drilled into secondary targets in the Lower Dornoch and the Maureen formations beneath the Skipper field, however IOG revealed Friday the well did not encounter any pay in the lower horizons which will now be plugged and abandoned.
Before drilling IOG had estimated the deeper exploration targets could have contained 46 million barrels of oil in place.
The primary objective of the well was to retrieve good quality reservoir condition oil samples from the Skipper reservoir in order to optimise the Skipper field development plan.
