Lake Charles LNG hopes to secure authorisation to export the additional volumes to countries with which the US has a free trade agreement (FTA) for a period of 25 years, and to non-FTA countries for 20 years.

The facility is currently permitted to export up to 730 Bcf per year to both FTA and non-FTA countries. The new authorisation would "align" the export volumes with the plant's liquefaction capacity, which has been approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, according to the application.
