The project, comprising three fields some 70 kilometres north-east of Aberdeen, is currently producing from two wells, Nexen's Chinese parent CNOOC Ltd said on Monday.

The two production wells are currently pumping 18,000 barrels per day of oil from the project, which is set to hit peak output of 70,000 bpd next year.

GEAD comprises the Golden Eagle, Peregrine and Solitaire fields in blocks 20/1S, 20/1N and 14/26a, situated in waters averaging between 89 and 139 metres.
