Speaking to Upstream, recently appointed Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said that the government wanted to make sure it got the round right.

 “We are looking at all aspects of the rounds up to Nelp 9 and the experiences up to that time... so we may take more time. It will take more time,” Pradhan said.

The tenth round of the New Exploration Licensing Policy (Nelp 10) is now proposed to see the offer of 52 blocks – 16 deep-water, 16 shallow-water and 20 onshore - together covering an area of 148,209 square kilometres, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Neeraj Mittal told attendees at the Indian Ministerial Session at the 21 World Petroleum Congress.
