Shell executive Deidre Michie has taken over as chief executive of the association from industry veteran Malcolm Webb, who retires at the end of this month.

She steps into the role at a critical time for the UK North Sea as it sees steep falls in investment, lower exploration drilling and fewer new projects reaching sanction amid low oil prices, hitting activity and earnings for contractors

“Our industry has a tough journey ahead, but I hope by working together, this sector will become stronger, safer and have a brighter future with a thriving supply chain, for decades to come,” Michie said.

“This
