The Australian mining giant revealed plans to exit a farm-out agreement over service contract 55 at the start of this month, only a week after it was given the green light to drill the Cinco-1 probe in the area.
A BHP spokesperson said in early November that the reason it chose to leave the deal was due to the exploration programme in the Philippines not being a “strategic fit” with its global portfolio.
