The vessel, built by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries, has been chartered by the Brazilian state-owned oil company on a three-year contract worth $536 million, giving a dayrate of $458,000.
Work had been scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2011 under the contract, which marks the Houston-based drilling contractor’s debut deal with Petrobras.
The Pacific Mistral is capable of operating in water depths of up to 12,000 feet and drilling wells 37,500 feet deep.
