Over the past two years the country has awarded more than 200 unconventional exploration licences to 59 companies, and has 52 exploration wells completed along with six horizontal wells.

Speaking at the 21st World Petroleum Congress in Moscow on Tuesday, Stanislaw Rychlicki, a professor at the University of Krakow, said the country has reached more than 40% of its target, with 128 wells confirmed to be drilled by existing producers such as Lane Energy Poland and Polish Oil & Gas Company (PGNIG).
