The emissions relate to at least 30 cubic metres of fire-fighting foam – containing so-called black chemicals – of which 21 cubic metres was discharged into the sea in the Arctic region, according to the police notification cited by Norwegian publication Teknisk Ukeblad.

The chemicals, which are said to be little degradable and acutely toxic, were leaked in four discharges that occurred between June and December last year, despite a requirement for zero emissions from the cylindrical floating production, storage and offloading platform.
