To be drilled by the MB Century 28 land rig, the Tutung Alpha-3 well will take 30 days to reach a depth of 3200 metres, targeting middle Miocene deltaic sandstones, Salamander said.

First made by Total in the early 1980s, the 100% Salamander-owned Tutung discovery was deemed to be potentially commercial in 2008 after Salamander drilled two appraisal wells.

The Tutung-1 and Tutung Alpha-1 wells tested flow rates of between 10 million cubic feet of gas per day and 15 MMcfd, with a mean resource volume at about 60 billion cubic feet.
