Block A covers 9909 square kilometres and lies on the western border of Sasol's Pande and Temane licences.

A Sasol spokesman said the company planned to start seismic work on Block A early next year.

Maputo also handed Block B to the Osho consortium as part of the third round. Block B covers 10,735 square kilometres. The Osho consortium is made up of OPII-Orient Petroleum International of Pakistan, ETA Star Holdings of the United Arab Emirates and Mozambique's Osho Energia Limitada.
