A spokeswoman confirmed that the company's global head count currently stands at between 92,500 and 93,000 after the most recent round of job cuts.
The company initially indicated that it had laid off 2000 people in the first quarter.
But on a conference call, chief executive Paal Kibsgaard clarified that the first-quarter reductions equalled about 8000 people.
