The unit, intended to supply low and high-pressure control fluid to subsea control modules that operate hydraulic valves, has now passed technology qualification as well as function tests under hyperbaric pressure equal to a water depth of 500 metres, Siemens said in a statement.

The German electrical engineering player said the unit, initially developed to serve as a back-up in the event of umbilical failure on a North Sea field, “is an important building block in the industry-wide vision for a subsea factory”.
