The company said it had signed a letter of intent with Carigali Triton for the self-erecting tender rig T-10, which is being built in Malaysia.
The $84 million drilling job will last for about three years. The contract will come into force once the rig is completed at the end of the second quarter of 2007.
Carigali Triton has handed Smedvig a new 18-month contract for the tender rig Teknik Berkat.
