Private equity-backed Talos Energy has kicked off production at the Tornado well at its Phoenix field in the deep-water US Gulf of Mexico.

According to the US independent, production is being channeled to the Helix Producer I floating production unit, and initial testing has yielded flow rates of as high as 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The company plans to keep the well flowing at a gross rate of between 13,000 and 16,000 boepd, until a second well is drilled.
