The harsh-environment, ultra-deepwater floater will be chartered by Suncor at a dayrate of $260,000 under a 15-month deal.
The estimated contract backlog, excluding mobilisation, is $119 million, Transocean said. The rig is expected to commence operations in the third quarter of 2017, the company added.
The project the Transocean Barents is expected to work on was not disclosed, however, Suncor holds interests in three existing oilfields off the east coast of Canada and is also the operator of the Terra Nova field, in the region, off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.
