The oil rig count remained steady at 406 in the week to 26 August, compared with 675 a year ago, energy services firm Baker Hughes said.
The number of rigs chasing gas, however, dropped by two to 81, down by 121 from a year ago.
Counts were accordingly flat across states and basins this week. Pennsylvania gained the most, adding two rigs for a total of 19.
