The move follows similar actions taken by the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, which recently conducted its first online-only sale of offshore oil and gas leases.
The US Buearu of Land Management (BLM), which administers public lands, says Internet-based auctions could increase onshore lease sale revenues by about $2 million a year.
