Anglo-American is operator of the Dawson coal mine in the Dawson Valley, at the southern end of the Central Queensland’s Bowen basin, which it jointly owns with Japan’s Mitsui Coal holdings, which holds 49%.
Under an agreement with the mine, Meridian SeamGas fields, operated by WestSide, has the right to extract gas from parts of the lease before the expansion of coal mining into those areas, Westside said.
