2Co Energy has been named as the preferred bidder to buy Powerfuel Power, a Yorkshire-based coal company that was put into administration last November, jeopardising plans to build a 900 megawatt coal gasification plant with carbon dioxide capture at the Hatfield colliery near Doncaster, which would the first of its kind in the world.
Brian Green, joint administrator of Powerfuel and restructuring partner at KPMG, said: “This stage of the sale process allows 2Co to carry out further due diligence of Powerfuel Power.
