CNOOC unit China Oilfield Services Ltd (COSL) won the contract to shoot a 2D seismic survey through a bidding process in early August, which was also contested by PNOC and PetroVietnam.
According to the service contract, COSL's Nanhai 502 seismic vessel will shoot an 11,000-kilometre 2D survey from now through the first half of next year.
The survey will be carried out in an area covering 146,000 square kilometres in the Lile basin in the south-east of the South China Sea, which is claimed by China, the Philippines and Vietnam.
