The number of active US rigs rose by eight in the latest week though the majority of the increase came in units drilling for natural gas rather than oil, writes Caroline Evans.
Drillers targeting natural gas added six rigs for a total of 192, up 196 from the same week a year ago, according to the latest weekly report on the rig count by Baker Hughes.
