The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) is seeing a rise in conventional activity after a decade of declining production thanks to advances in horizontal drilling and multi-stage fracturing, causing renewed interest in ageing oil fields such as the Bakken light oil play in Saskatchewan and the Cardium and Viking light oil plays in Alberta.
This year alone, overall production will increase by 3.6%
