Aker BP is launching an ambitious plan to increase output from the giant, mature Valhall field off Norway to allow the recovery of as much as a billion barrels of additional oil.
Valhall is an enormous oilfield in the Norwegian part of the North Sea, with estimated oil in place of about 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
However, the chalk reservoir 2500 metres below the seabed is challenging to exploit and with current sanctioned plans Aker BP would only expect a total recovery rate of 30%, or 1.2
