Alberta oil sands producer Canadian Natural Resources (CNR) has temporarily shut in about 65,000 barrels per day of production at its Pelican Lake and Woodenhouse operations as wildfires that have burned across the region for weeks prompted evacuations.

CNR said it had withdrawn its 240 staff from the facilities and was monitoring fires at Slave Lake and Wabasca.

Wildfires continued to burn and evacuation orders remained in place this week, though about some residents in northern Alberta were allowed to return home.
