THE Alberta government will increase carbon taxes to C$30 (US$24) per tonne over a specified limit by 2017 in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Canadian province by at least 20%.
With legislation set to expire on 30 June, the recently elected NDP has decided to renew the province’s existing climate change strategy with a mandate to review policy and introduce phased taxation over the next two years.
