The Alberta government in Canada will spend C$2.5 million (US$1.9 million) over the next year investigating what it says is a foreign-funded misinformation campaign aimed at taking down the oil-rich province’s fossil fuel industry, writes Caroline Evans.
The investigation, to be led by commissioner Steve Allan, a forensic and restructuring accountant, will focus on information gathering and interviewing witnesses during an initial phase.
