BAKER Hughes is overhauling its business after its failed merger with Halliburton.

The Houston-based services giant intends to limit its exposure to the volatile US pressure-pumping market and return to its roots as a high-tech manufacturer in many international markets.

The contractor can make use of a $3.5 billion termination fee from its bigger rival to help in these repositioning efforts — and is also looking to cut costs this year by $500 million .
