Norwegian authorities have approved the $4.7 billion second phase of the giant Johan Sverdrup oilfield development in the North Sea, operated by state-controlled player Equinor, writes Beate Schjolberg.

Phase two is due on stream in late 2022, about three years after the $9.8 billion phase one, which is on track to start production in November this year.

Equinor received the formal go-ahead from the Ministry of Petroleum & Energy this week, after parliament approved the plan in late April.
