Statoil has been joined by independents Anadarko and Venari after they farmed into the Norwegian company's once high-stakes but never-drilled Monument prospect in the remote deep-water Gulf of Mexico.

The move is a potential boost for the long-stalled project, or even others nearby.

According to US records, as of 12 January Anadarko and Venari are listed as uniform co-owners in five blocks and part of another in the Walker Ridge area — WR 315, WR 316, WR 227, WR 271, WR 272 and the eastern half of WR 270.
