Anadarko Petroleum posted a loss of over a billion dollars for the second quarter, writes Kathrine Schmidt.

The US independent took $1.27 billion in charges that included the breakup fee and other expenses from its cancelled merger with US supermajor Chevron.

The transaction costs amounted to $1.042 billion, according to Anadarko, which opted to back out of the Chevron deal after finding an alternative proposal from Occidental Petroleum to be superior.
